Book Review

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

Again the wonderful people of Instagram made me aware of this book series, I’m glad they did although my bank balance may not forgive me getting sucked into another fandom.

The book is about a world that separate it people into Reds and Sliver, Red are basically in slaved to the Slivers as they have powers. The story follows Mare Molly Burrows a Red who is months from turning 18 and being conscripted into the army. To help her family she steals until one day she try to steal from someone who see something in her and gets her a job as a servant to the Royal Family. An accident happens which reveals her powers, which should not be possible in someone who bleeds red. The Royal family do not want this to be common knowledge so make up a lie to hide her in play sight as a long-lost sliver princess. As Mare see the life of a Sliver it makes her want to help her own people and join a group that seeks equality between Reds and Slivers. But in this world of Slivers not everything as it seems and not everyone can be trusted.

I enjoyed the story and the character, it did take me sometime to get into the story. But once I did I didn’t want to put the book down. Victoria has created an amazing world which I enjoy reading about but wouldn’t want to live, the harsh reality of a world where power is everything and trust is hard to find. The story had some many twists and turns that I would never would’ve guessed the ending, and to me that is the most important aspect of a book. I already have Glass Sword ready and I cant wait to see what happens next.

People that have read A Thorne of Glass series and similar books would enjoy this story as well. Although at the moment Thorne of Glass series has a slight edge over this for me.
