Wicked like a Wildfire (Hisbiscus Daughters #1) by Lana Popovic

Wicked Like a Wildfire by Lana Popvic was the book I received in my August FairyLoot box.
I was really interested in the premise of this book as a love book that have magic in it. The book follows twins Iris and Malina girls born into a family that has unique magical ability which they call the gleam. The gleam allows them the ability to manipulate beauty. Iris sees flowers as fractals and turns her kaleidoscope visions into glass work, while Maline interprets moods as music with her voice and violin. To keep them safe their mother has strict rules so that no one will find out their secrets. Iris and Malina are not allowed to share their magic and most important, they are forbidden from falling in love.  Iris and Malina life is turn upside down when their mother is mysteriously attached, the sisters will have to unearth the truth behind the quiet lives their mother has built for them. They will discover a wicked curse that haunts their family line, but with the discovery of the curse the magic that has always kept Iris and Malina together maybe be the thing that tears them apart …. forever.
As a twin I am always more critical when the story has twins in it, most stories have twins as either identical in every sense of the word, or one good and one evil. Which isn’t a correct reflection on twins. So I was really surprised with Iris and Malina as their relationship is like similar to my sister and I, this is so refreshing to see and made me connect more to the characters. There is a part in the story when they are decided who will go and who will stay, I could see me and my sister having a similar conversation, this ended up making me cry.

The story was a great mix of genre for me, as it had the crime solving with the case of their mothers mixed with magic and fantasy. I was absorbed in the story and Iris and Malina world, the story is beautiful written with great twists and turns. The way that Lana had described Montenegro makes me want to start planning a trip there.

I will definitely be on the look out for book 2.

I give this story 5 out of 5
