A Jigsaw of Fire and Stars by Yaba Badoe

A Jigsaw of Fire and Stars by Yaba Badoe was the book that I received in my September Book Box Club, Libby and Kate have good taste in books.

The Book follows Sante a fourteen girl who as a baby was found by Mama Rose, Mama Rose found her and a sea-chest on a beach, a survivor of a sinking boat. Mama Rose runs a traveling circus where she has taken in many lost souls. Sante past catches up with her when another survivor recognise her while performing, now the soul lost on that sinking boat are coming to Sante asking for revenge.  Sante must find the missing pieces of the jigsaw to complete her own story.

One of my favourite parts of the book is the relationship between Sante and Priss her bird. Priss was the first to find her in her sea-chest, and has taken her role of protector very serious. I like Sante wish of being able to fly free with Sante.

I found the book very easy to read, with a charming charismatic story.  The balance with the light heartiness with the circus,  and with the seriousness of race, kidnappers and human traffickers. This has creates a compelling story and a must read.

I give this 4.4 out of 5
