December TBR list

This month instead of the list of books coming out this month that I am looking forward too reading, I am going to write about the book that are on my To Be Read list that I can’t wait to read.

The bookto make me feel Christmassy

Mr Dickens and his Christmas Carol by Samantha Silva

Christmas Carol is one of my favourite Christmas Movie (ok its the Muppet Christmas Carol Movie). So I am really interested in a fictional account of who Charles Dickens came up with the story.

downloadFor Charles Dickens, each Christmas has been better than the last. His novels are literary blockbusters, and he is famous on the streets of London, where avid fans sneak up on him to snip off pieces of his hair. He and his wife have five happy children, a sixth on the way, and a home filled with every comfort they could imagine. But when Dickens’ newest book is a flop, the glorious life he has built for himself threatens to collapse around him. His publishers offer an ultimatum: either he writes a Christmas book in a month, or they will call in his debts, and he could lose everything. Grudgingly, he accepts, but with relatives hounding him for loans, his wife and children planning an excessively lavish holiday party, and jealous critics going in for the kill, he is hardly feeling the Christmas spirit.

Increasingly frazzled and filled with self-doubt, Dickens seeks solace and inspiration in London itself, his great palace of thinking. And on one of his long walks, in a once-beloved square, he meets a young woman in a purple cloak, who might be just the muse he needs. Eleanor Lovejoy and her young son, Timothy, propel Dickens on a Scrooge-like journey through his Christmases past and present—but with time running out, will he find the perfect new story to save him?

YA Fantasy and Science Fiction

Rebellion and Resistance By Josephine Boyce

I got to meet the lovely Josephine Boyce at YALC this year, this is where I picked up both books. I can’t believe I have not read them yet, the book are set in a sci-fi dystopian world, which is one of my favourite sub genre of Sci-fi

download-1.jpgRebellion

Auria was the last nation in Europe to be occupied by the Global Defence Organisation, the same organisation that promised to bring peace when riots spread rapidly across the continent. Now governing all of Old Europe, the GDO’s control over Auria begins to increase and their tactics to dominate the population become more violent; 17-year-old Cassia Fortis decides that she’s had enough of being repressed and chooses to take matters into her own hands.

With her loyal friend Luca, Cassia joins the GDO army, in the hope that she can find a way to free her Dad from prison and reunite her parents. What she doesn’t account for is the measures she will have to take to prove her loyalty to the regime and the devastating path her best friend Jake will take.

Resistance

download-2Cassia has successfully started a rebellion against the Global Defence Organisation – but what happens now? She joins the Resistance which is aiming to take back Old Paris and push the GDO back out of Old Europe. Although she supports the Resistance’s aims, she struggles with the impact it has on innocent people’s lives. Kohler (her old enemy) is out for revenge and has found a unique way to get under her skin. Will she be an asset for the Resistance or will her doubts put everyone in jeopardy?

Rage is a GDO soldier, but she’s also still a child, brutally trained to be a weapon. She infiltrates the Resistance camp where Cassia and her team are based. She’ll do anything to protect the one thing she cares about, the question is, how far will she go

Crime Fiction/ Mystery Thriller

Every Pretty Thing (Darby McCormick) by Chris Mooney

I have been reading this series for years, and still remember the scary dreams that I got after I finished reading the first book in the series, The Missing.

download-3.jpgSerial killer expert Darby McCormick gets a call from FBI Agent Jackson Cooper, who has been contacted by a woman who’s been in hiding for twenty years.

She was one of the only survivors of a murderer who has been carving a dark path across America for decades. Cooper believes he may have tracked this psychopath to the wilds of Montana.

Now, he needs Darby’s help to bring him in. But when she arrives Cooper has vanished without a trace.

Something is very wrong – and as the trail goes cold, Darby is all alone in a strange town, stalked by an unseen predator who wants to add another victim to his collection

The Freedom Broker by K. J Howe

I havent read a lot of books that deal with kidnap, although I have watch lots of films and t.v shows so I thought this would be a great , so this book sounded like a good book to dip my toe in.

29758002Kidnap negotiator Thea Paris has spent her entire life with survivor’s guilt, following an unspeakable childhood tragedy. At eight years old, she watched, frozen in fear, as her twelve-year-old brother, Nikos, was abducted from their home in Kanzi, Africa. Although he was recovered nine months later, he was never the same after that; worse, Thea discovers that she was supposed to have been the target.

Twenty years after her brother’s abduction, Thea’s worst nightmare is revisited when her father, oil magnate Christos Paris, is taken on his sixtieth birthday. He disappears from his yacht while it is moored at Santorini, the ship’s whole crew slaughtered mercilessly. Thea immediately calls in her team at Quantum Security International, premier K&R specialists. Following protocol, they break down Christos’ life, looking for leads, but the list of enemies and business competitors is endless. Not surprisingly, Christos Paris has imprinted his designer shoe on innumerable backs during his journey to the top of the oil business. And he was abducted only a few days before the biggest deal of his career.

From there, the case only gets stranger. Unlike most abductions, there are no ransom demands, no political appeals, no prisoner release requests. Instead, the kidnapper sends foreboding quotes in Latin by text from burner phones. What does the kidnapper want? And most importantly for Thea, will she be able to prevent a second kidnapping from destroying her family for good?

Hopefully I will get to read more book this month, so I can make room for the books coming out in 2018.

Thanks for reading
