Book Review

A Killer Harvest By Paul Cleaves

A Killer Harvest is the first book that I have read by Paul Cleaves, and it will not be the last.

My synopsis  of A Killer Harvest:

The book follows Joshua, a boy born with bad luck or what he would call a curse. He was born blind, and both parents have died while he was a baby, and recently his adoptive father is killed while working as a Detective Inspector with Christchurch police. His father dying wish is for Joshua to see, and arranges for his eye to be donated to him. Due to a mistake Joshua ends up with one eye for his father and one eye from the man than murdered him Simon Bowers. As Joshua gets use to a life with sight, he starts to get a glimpse into memories of his father and Simon Bowers. Joshua comes to realise that his father and his partner ‘Uncle Ben’ maybe getting justice in other way.  The glimpse into Simons memories take Joshua down a dark path of murder and missing girls, that he is drawn to solve.

While Joshua is coming to terms with his life Simon Bowers best friends Vincent is bent on revenge. He wants the man who killed his friend to suffer so all of Ben love ones are now in danger.

With many book I have that feeling of panic when there is of too much to be wrapped up and not many pages left. This book was different instead your heart is pounding with the build up of the story, you think everything is going to be resolved, than you realise that there are too many pages left and then you think Oh My God what going to happen next. Than a plot twist happens that makes your head spin. I had to read a couple of the pages again to make sure I was reading this correctly I was so surprised. This was one of the books that I couldn’t put down, and I willing sacrifice my sleep to continue reading it. (Which says a lot considering I love my sleep)

This book has a mixed of different character and it’s interesting they view on the justice system, and what people class as justice. This book to me shows how grey the criminal justice system can be. Good people will do bad things for the right reason, it make you question what would you do? What would you do if the greater good meant breaking the law.
Part of the story revolves around organ donation and cellular memory. Cellular memory is when a donor, starts to experience craving, memories of the person that they received the organ from. I found this article that has stories about cellular memory, If anyone is interested in reading more about the topic.  http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-381587/Shocking-examples-cellular-memory.html
I give this book 5 out of 5
