Book Review

Mr Dickens and His Carol By Samantha Silva

One of my favourite Christmas films is A Muppets Christmas Carol, so when I came across Mr Dickens and His Carol by Samantha Silva, I knew what my Christmas read was going to be.

Mr Dickens and His Carol, as the name may have given away is a fictional account of how Charles Dickens came to write the famous A Christmas Carol.

Christmas is coming closer to the Dickens house hold, but Charles is not truly in the Christmas mood. He last book is not selling as well as his previous books, and his publisher has threaten to take future earning off Charles to pay for his advance if he does not write a Christmas book. Charles does not want to write the book, but if he doesn’t it could cause his family to go to the poor house. Follow Charles as he begrudgingly writes a Christmas book, and finds his Christmas spirit.

This book is beautiful, heart warming Christmas read. I was surprised some of my emotion response to the book. Charles Dickens is an interesting and complex character, in parts of the story his is one of the most interesting character and other I parts I am not fan of his personality.

I do not read may books that have a real character in a fictional book, half way into the book I ended up felt compelled to search Charles Dickens, as I realised I knew very little about him.

This book is great read for around the Christmas time, a must read really. Especially in this day and age its a great reminder of the what is important at Christmas

It took me a little bit to get into the writing style of the book, the book is written in a way that matches the time the book is based in. The style helped transport me to the time and place, it just took me a little longer to get into the rhythm of the story.

Thanks you to Alisa at Allison and Busby for a copy of this book, in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I give this book 3.9 out of 5
