She was name Sorrow by her mother as that is all she brings.

Sorrow is the daughter of the Chancellor of Rhannon, for the last 18 years he has been grief-stricken from the death of his Son and Wife. In his grief he has kept Rhannon is mourning, anything that could bring happiness is now illegal, Rhannon has crumble under his rule.

When enemies old and new start to move against Sorrow and Rhannon, Sorrow must decide if she is willing to become the Chancellor Rhannon needs or to have a life of her own.

This book in places left me an emotional wreck (unattractive crying), and slightly emotional drained by the end. The parts between Sorrow and her father really broke my heart. If Sorrow had been born male her relationship between the two would be different (better) and I always struggle with that, even more that it based in fact.

I couldn’t put this book down, and read it in one day ( I was annoyed that I had to put the book down to do the work I am actually paid to do.)

There is one character in the book *cough Vespus Corrigan *cough that I hope comes to a grisly end, most of the time when he came up in the story, I kept saying to the book I hope someone kills him. I always like when a writer can write a character you can hate, without the obvious evil bad guy traits.

I liked Sorrow as a character, the strength that she has at her young age to deal with her father and the responsibilities of running a country.  There was a couple of times that Sorrow did something that made me think that would come and bite her, and sadly some of them do.

What I like about this book:

  • The differences between Rhannon and The Rhyllians
  • Rhyllians magic (abilities to take pain away, effect plants, create Ice etc.)
  • Sorrow and Irris friendship
  • Luvian
  • Politics

I give this book 4.8 out of 5.
