Book Review: Too Close to Breathe (Frankie Sheehan #1) by Olivia Kiernan

Hello Cara!

I am a member of the Goldboro Books, Book of the Month Club and this is how I ended with such a pretty copy of Too Close to Breathe by Olivia Kiernan.

DCS Frankie Sheeran has returned back to work after a period of time away from the job, her first case back looks like suicide. As a trained profiler DCS Sheeran notices foul straight away. The victim Dr Eleanor Costello is found hanging in her bedroom, in her immaculate home, and her husband is nowhere to be found.

When DCS Sheeran start to try a gain a picture of Eleanor life and find out who would want her dead, she realises that Eleanor world is a lot darker, and this darkness doesn’t just surround her. Now DCS Sheeran has to find out who killer Eleanor and stop the murder before someone else dies.

I have a love of crime fiction book that are sent in Ireland, I find the Garda really interesting as a police force.

I found DCS Frankie Sheeran a compelling character, she is dealing PTSD after being attacked in the line of duty, although the memory of the attack is still with her, it doesn’t stop her from doing her job. When I first started reading the book I didn’t realise that she was female, as the focus was about the victim. I liked that fact to be honest, as it shows the focus is Frankie as a Cop.

The crime gripped me from the beginning, a murder that made to look like suicide but there is more to Eleanor death than met the eye. The book has so many great twist and turn that made me keep turning the pages. I liked the fact that the book was fast paced and that they had the real world feel of trying to solve the case before the funding was cut.

The book is a really great start for a new crime fiction series, I am looking forward to seeing what happens next to Frankie Sheeran.

If you are looking for a flawed protagonist and a dark crime fiction I would advise picking this book up.

I give this book 4.5 out of 5.
