The Boneless Mercies by April Genevieve Tuchoike, was on ARC from the Illumicrates Bad Girls box. The cover is so pretty and I am intrigued by the premise of the story.
The Mercies girls are a group fo mercenaries that give people a merciful death on request.
Frey is tired of killing, a life a Boneless mercies is a quiet and unknown life, a life Frey doesn’t wants. Frey wants a life-like the people in the heroic saga she has told about in stories.. When she hears of an unstoppable monster, Frey talks Ovie, Juniper and Runs into giving up the death trade and to go and stop the monster to gain their fame and fortune.
To begin with The Boneless Mercies is more about the sisterhood between the girls, than the deaths that they cause. As a result the bond between the four of the girls is a joy to read.
Firstly The Boneless Mercies wasn’t what I expected. The mercenary I’ve been introduce to are money driven, ones that don’t kill for mercy like the mercies girls.
One of my favourite elements of The Boneless Mercies was the role reversals. The female where the killers and the only male of the group is a wannabe healer. I enjoy reading about people who are not in the normal gender role.
Frequently of important is Frey she is an interesting lead character, she has a lot of compassion and drive, as well as an interesting view on the world. I would have like to learn more about Juniper and her life as a Sea Witch.
The Boneless Mercies is a stand alone, the world that April has create is a world that I believe has more tales to tell.
Finally The Boneless Mercies is a book of three acts, each act has gripping as the last.
