Book Review: The Twisted Tree by Rachel Burge

Hello Min Venn,

Todays book review is The Twisted Tree by Rachel Burge. The Twisted Tree has been marked as part Nordic thriller part Ghost story.

Since Martha accident which caused her to become blind in one eye, she has been able to tell things about a person just by touching their clothes. The memories and emotions that have absorbed into the materials.

Determined to understand her strange ability, Martha sets off to visit her grandmother, Mormor – only to discover Mormor is dead, a peculiar boy is in her cabin and a terrifying creature is on the loose.

Then the spinning wheel starts spinning, books move around and terror starts to haunt Martha.

The Twisted Tree is a chilling ghost story with a great norse mythology twist.

Norse Mythology fascinates me and love how was it was weaved into this ghost story. It’s creates more intrigue and mystery with in the story. As I know the story of Odin, I like this addition to his myth.

The Twisted Tree was binge read in one day. The book draw me in and I didn’t want to put it down.

The Twisted Tree is fast paced with great twist, turns with a dash of mystery, splash of spookiness and a dose of tension.

Furthermore having Martha ability being reading people emotion and memories from clothing was a great take on empathy ability. I felt that how Martha deals with the loss her eye and the gaining her ability was how must people would deal with that situation. I too would hide in my room and avoid people.

The Twisted Tree left me wanting to find out what happened next for Martha and Stig.

My rating for The Twisted Tree is 4 out of 5.
