Book Review: Perfect Remains (D.I Callanach #1) by Helen Sarah Fields

Hello Mukkers, ,

Today’s review is about Perfect Remains by Helen Sarah Fields. This is the first book in the DI Callanach series. I have previously read book 3 Perfect Death and book 4 Prefect Silence in the series. As book 5 Perfect Crime is out in April I thought I would be a good time to read how it all started.

On a remote Scotland Highland mountain, the body of Lawyer Elaine Buxton is burning. The only things left to identify the Elaine  are her teeth and a fragment of clothing.

In a hidden  back room of a house in Edinburgh, the real Elaine Buxton screams.

Its Detective Inspector Luc Callanach second day in the Scotland police when Elaine’s missing persons case is escalated to a murder investigation. Luc left behind a promising career at Interpol, now he back to square one trying to prove himself to his new team. He soon discovers that Edinburgh is a long way from Lyon.

It’s not long before another successful woman is abducted from her doorstep, and Callanach finds himself in a race against the clock. to find the killer. Or so he believes … The real fate of the women will prove more twisted than he could have ever imagined.

Perfect Remains is a gripping thriller with great cast of characters.

I already loved Ava and Luc but it was great seeing how their friendship started, and Luc first impression of Ava. It was also good to find out more about the catalyst that made Luc move to Edinburgh.

Let’s talk about the cases, Luc case into Elaine is the primary case. I enjoyed that it wasn’t the normal murder mystery. It a little creepy as with the motive behind the crime. Ava case is the death of a newborn baby left in a park, this case is sad story. The situation surrounding the baby being left is heart breaking and sadly you could see still happening in this day and age, even though we live in a world that should no better.

Perfect Remains has action, mystery, suspense, friendship all wrapped in a captivating crime thriller.

My rating for Perfect Remains is 4.5 out of 5.
