The Caller (Robert Hunter #8) By Chris Carter

0

The Calleris book 8 in the Robert Hunter series that follows Robert Hunter and Carlos Garica of the Special section of the LAPDHomicide and burglary department.

This time Robert Hunter and his partner Carlos Garcia are on the hunt for a killer that calls a victim love one and tells them if they answer two questions correctly then the victim will go free, if they don’t the victim will be punished.

Chris Carter is a master of killing people in unique and interesting ways, he also intertwines the case with the change in modernsociety. Which allows the story to ring true and make me check to make sure that my Facebook profile isn’t public.

This book for me is criminal minds in book form, if criminal minds was local police and not FBI. Robert Hunter is an amazing profiler and it really interesting to read how he pieces the evidence together. As the reader we are aware of more information as the chapters don’t always follow Robert, but that doesn’t help you figure out the killer before Robert, you think you know but it is never who you thought.

I give this book 5 out of 5

Thanks for reading.

FlashFall by Jenny Moyer

0

I received Flashfall in my November Nerdy Bookworm box, to be honest I wouldn’t have picked this book out myself. I had this book for a couple of month and kept putting it off reading, until yesterday and once I started reading I couldn’t put it down. If I hadn’t received a dirty look from my dog who was trying to sleep I would haveread into the night.

The book follows a world where radioactive partials rains from the sky. Orion a Supbar a human that can work near and with radioactive material. Her people mine cirium the only element that can shield humanity from the radioactive material. They are told if they mine over 400g they can go into the protected city, but when newcomers come to Outpost Five everything changes.

Jenny Moyer has created an interesting world, a world that you could believe could happen (hopefully not). She has also created character that I started caring for straight away, Orion and Dram their dynamic is a joy to read, they bring out the best in each other which you can see from the beginning. Orion is one of my favorite female leads she is hard-working, smart, determined and caring. She willing to do anything for the people that she cares about which makes her more fascinating.

This book fast past and none stop and I can’t wait to see what happens next in Flashtide which is realised November 14th 2017.

King’s Cage (Red Queen #3) by Victoria Aveyard

0

King’s Cageis book 3 in the Red Queen series, we last saw Mare when she gave up her freedom to save Cal, Newbloods and Scarlet Guard. This book starts as Glass Sword ended with Maven chaining up Mare in front of a Sliver crowd to show the world the Lighting Girl has been caught.

To me this book had a different feel to it, that this book is the build up to something tremendous that will change their world forever. Because of this there is a change of pace in this book, its like a slow burn. The first half of so deals with Mare imprisonment and what she learns and the second half deals with the ramification of the Scarlet Guard planning and Maven plotting.

I felt that I learnt more about this world from this book, not just the politics but the people. There where a couple of character that my opinions of changed, its seems the need for power is from the older generation and it the younger generation that will suffer to keep it. Which is really unfair and I am glad that I don’t have to live like that. There we also some character that I was disappointed in, hoping that everything that has happened would change them for the better but that wasn’t the case. Then there are the character that I still hate, even after death I learn to hate Elena the evil queen even more.

Now the wait begins for the next book.

I give this book 4 out of 5

Strungballs By Mike Russell

0

I was lucky enough to be given this book in exchange for a fair and honest review, thank you Jay Strange Books Secretary for contacting me. I would of missed reading this book other wise.

Strungballs is the third book from Mike Russell and his first Novella, with only 66 pages it a nice quick read if you have a couple of hours free.

The book follows Sydney as he has his first skin removed for his first Strungball to be inserted, his skin is used to help patch up a skin barrier that protects the city from the “Others”. Sydney with a little help start questioning his reality which changes his whole world.

In it’s strange storyline it brought up many topics that I found thought provoking;

  • Is are greatest fear ourselves?
  • Do we follow the party line or are we strong enough to question it?
  • What are we willing to do to be normal?

I found the story really interesting and it will keep me thinking about the story long after finishing it.

Just a heads up if anyone is interested that Mike Russell is giving away on Goodread a copy of Strungball. The giveway is opened until the 24th Feburay 2017, the giveaway is only open to US and UK resident.

I give this 4 out of 5.

Dead Heat (Alpha & Omega #4) By Patricia Briggs

0

Now on to book 4 of Alpha & Omega series Dead Heat,I wish I had taken my time with this series as now I have to wait till March 2018 for Burn Bright. But at least I have something else to look forward to next year.

Dead Heat takes places just over three years since the first book Cry Wolf, this time Anna and Charles are off to see an old friend and buy Anna a horse for her 26th Birthday. Unfortunately for Charles and Anna they get involved in a child Kidnappingthat involves the Fae and a family connected to the local pack.

This book gives you more insight into Charles, as he is visiting a human friend that is at the end of his life. This is harder on Charles as his friend Joseph has family that are Werewolves but he does not wish that for himself. It was lovely to see him happy with other people who aren’t Anna. It also showed his playfulness which we do not get to see enough of and hope to see more of especially if Anna gets her way.

Reading this book made me miss horse riding, the happiness that Charles gets from riding was evident in the writing. Even though I didn’t understand everything that was said about riding you don’t feel stupid or confused as the reader is in the same predicament as Anna.

As always an enjoyable read now off to find another series to lose myself in.

Fair Game (Alpha & Omega #3) By Patricia Briggs

0

Fair Game is book 3 in the Alpha and Omega series and Patricia Briggs is still keeping me griped with the lives of Anna and Charles.

Fair Game is set a couple of years after Hunting Ground, Werewolves have revealed themselves to the human public. Charles is having to deal with an increase of work load as having to be stricter with Werewolves to keep public opinion on their side. This is having an effect on his relationship with Anna. To help Charles, Bran send Charles and Anna to Boston to help with a serial killer case where werewolves have become victims.

What I enjoy with this series is that every book is different, it doesn’t follow a set formula each book is individual. It makes this series really interesting to read as you never know where the story is heading and when the next story will pick up.

I appreciated the growth in Anna character, she was much stronger as an individual in this book and less reliant on Charles to bring her peace and safety. She also has a great sense of humor which was seen in the previous book but more prevalent in this book. I can’t wait to see the evolution of Anna in the next book as gets better which each book.

I am very interested to see what will happen next as the ending of Fair Game is a game changer .

I give this book 5 out 5

Hunting Ground (Alpha & Omega 2) by Patricia Briggs

0

Book 2 in the Alpha and Omega series, Anna and Charles are settling into married life. When they are sent to Seattle to speak to the European Werewolves about Brans decision to go public. Anna and Charles have to be careful who they can and can’t trust.

I prefered Hunting Ground to Cry Wolf as the plot was really interesting and you could see the growth of Anna and Charles even in the short time between books. Another aspect was the growth I enjoyed was the expension of the supernatural world with the introduction of Fae, Vampires and Trolls. It will be interesting to see what else lives in this world that human are not aware of.

My only issue is why in book that deal with the supernatural that the Eurpean one are the crazy ones?

I can’t wait to see the what else Anna and Charles have to deal with as Charles job as the Enforcers wont give them a quiet life. I also hope that we get to see more of Charles powers and his native side of the family.
