Book Review: Dark Queen (Jane Yellowrock #12) by Faith Hunter

Hello Chers Amis,

I feel in Love with the Jane Yellowrock series before I started blogging, I am wondering why it takes me so long to read Dark Queen. This is one of the series that got me really interested in Urban Fantasy. I even tried Belly dancing as Jane made it sounds so much fun. (Its MUCH harder than it looks.)

Leo has been issued a blood challenge by the emperor of the European Vampires.

It Jane job as Enforcer to the Vampire Master of the City of New Orleans to keep the people and it territory safe. The European vampires seek to control the US and remake in it image,, meaning no witch, were, homosexuality. If Leo loses his match to the death the people of New Orleans will suffer the consequences Jane can not, will not let this happen

Preparing for the duel requires all of Jane’s focus, but with so much supernatural power in play, nothing goes according to plan. Jane must rely on herself and the people she trust to help to save New Orleans.

Dark Queen is an urban fantasy masterpiece, that has ever element that made you fall in love with Jane Yellowrock in the first place.

It made me gasp, laugh and nearly cry. (I was listening to the book at work so I couldn’t cry or I would have got some funny looks) It also had some great revelations, we find out more and Jane and Leo history.

There is a lot going on in Dark Queen as Jane deal with the EV trying to sabotage the Blood dual and then the Blood Dual itself. It all work together make it a killer read. Jane at the beginning of the series started off as a loner. In Dark Queen it show how much Jane has grown. She has people she loves and trust. That she only fight to keep the people she loves safe, that she doesn’t want to be a monster some people think she is.

Dark Queen feels like all the 11 books before has been leading up to this book.  That from the moment that Jane met Leo this was already in the works. (Knowing Leo it was.)

What can I say about Beast, Jane mountain lion soul. She is entertaining all on her own, especially anything human related. I nearly spit out my drink when I listened to Beast being stuck in a sports Bra. Jane should listen to Beast and start killing Bras. I think Beast is holding a lot back from Jane, and I am hoping we find out some of Beasts secrets.

My favourite quote from the book is “my life has become a soap opera with fangs and fur.”

I will differently be listening to the rest of the Jane Yellowrock books, as I loved listening to Jane south drawl.

My rating for Dark Queen is 5 out of 5.
