Book Review: A Heart So Fierce and Broken (Cursebreaker #2) by Brigid Kemmerer

Hi Cara,

I was so happy when I won an ARC copy of A Heart so Fierce and Broken. This is the second book in the Cursebreaker series. The first book in the series is A Curse so Dark and Lonely.

Find the heir, win the crown.
The curse is finally broken, but Prince Rhen of Emberfall faces darker troubles still. Rumours circulate that he is not the true heir and that forbidden magic has been unleashed in Emberfall. Although Rhen has Harper by his side, his guardsman Grey is missing, leaving more questions than answers.

Win the crown, save the kingdom.
Rumoured to be the heir, Grey has been on the run since he destroyed Lilith. He has no desire to challenge Rhen–until Karis Luran once again threatens to take Emberfall by force. Her own daughter Lia Mara sees the flaws in her mother’s violent plan, but can she convince Grey to stand against Rhen, even for the good of Emberfall?

The heart-pounding, compulsively readable saga continues as loyalties are tested and new love blooms in a kingdom on the brink of war.

Synopsis from Goodreads.com

A Heart so Fierce and Broken is full of so many amazing moments. Moments that will make your heart pound and your heartbreak.

I loved Grey in A Curse so Dark and Lonely and fell in love with him more in A Heart so Fierce and broken. The way he holds himself while he deals with the knowledge that Lilith dropped on him at the end of A Curse so Dark and Lonely.

A Curse so Dark and lonely leading lady was Harper, In a Heart so Fierce and Broken is Lia Mara. Lia Mara is a bookworm warrior. Who wants peace, not war. Loyalty due to kindness and compassion. This is very different from her mother and sister. Who believe in power is through brute strength and fear.

Another character that deserves a mention is Tycho. A young boy that befriends Grey. He has a youthful view of the world and is incredibly loyal.

The book is mainly told in Grey and Lia Mara point of view. But we do get Rhen and Harper POV in a couple of chapters. I won’t say in which way my opinion changed of Rhen, but it did. Especially with a moment at the beginningish and at the end of the book.

Regarding the plot of A Heart so Fierce and Broken, the plot is fast-paced and beautifully written. I enjoyed the mixture of drama with action sprinkled with romance. The book is full of so many amazing quotes from A Heart so Fierce and Broken, but I am not going to add any to my review as I don’t want to spoil anything. All I will say is that my copy has many post-it notes marking my favourite moments and great quotes.

My rating for A Heart so Fierce and Broken is 5 out of 5.
