Book Review: The Demon World (The Smoke Thieves #2) by Sally Green

Hi Cara,

Today review returns me to Sally Green world of The Smoke Thieves. The Demon world is the second book in the series.

Love.
Loyalty.
Lies.

Scattered by the tides of war, Princess Catherine leads a ragtag band of survivors into the barren wasteland of the Northern Plateau.

With enemies snapping at their heels, they are driven into the strange and deadly tunnels of the demon world. But while Tash dares to go deeper, Catherine must return to the surface to confront a nation in turmoil – and her growing love for Ambrose. On the run from the law, Edyon and March grow closer even as their secrets threaten to tear them apart.

Under attack from all sides, truth becomes the first casualty. But as their deceptions multiply, will the Smoke Thieves’ lies save them or bring disaster?

The Demon World is a world that keeps getting bigger and more dangerous.

The book is split into multiply points of view, this means that there is a lot to take on. But it also keeps the world interesting. By having the multiply POV I did find it hard to connect to any of the characters, as there is so many and you don’t spend as much time with some as you do with others.

The addition of the demon world was one of my favourite aspects of the book. The different way of communication, and how demons are born I created was fascinating. I am hoping we see more of it in the next book.

Another element I liked in the book is that Catherine deals with male prejudiced against women in power. I am not going to lie there were certain times I got angry at her treatment. Also a couple of times I wanted to punch a character or two.

The moments between March and Edyon are so sweet, they also have some great lines ;

“Run away. Run away;’ Edyon muttered.

‘What’s wrong with everyone?’

‘Why doesn’t anyone run away?”

“Just a moment. Let’s think about this; March said holding his arm out.

‘Sometimes it’s best not to think.’ and Edyon run off the cliff edge.”

My rating for The Demon World is 4 out of 5.
