Book Review: The Angel of Death (The Soul Summoner #3) by Elicia Hyder

Hi Cara,

I have finished book 3 in The Soul Summoner Series The Angel of Death.

After stopping a serial killer and shutting down an interstate human trafficking ring, Sloan Jordan is ready for a break. But back at home in Asheville, her problems have only just begun.

The supernatural world has taken an interest in her, and strange things are happening. Her powers are multiplying, she’s plagued by vivid nightmares, and a deranged young woman, babbling an unknown language, has been detained by police. The only clue to her identity—Sloan’s name carved into her arm.

If that wasn’t enough, the FBI has launched a full-scale investigation into her private life, believing Sloan might not be as innocent as she claims.

With her boyfriend, Warren Parish, deployed with the Marine Corps, Sloan’s only ally is Detective Nathan McNamara. Their friendship is already complicated, and its limits are about to be tested. Sloan has a secret…one that could turn even Nathan against her forever.

(Synopsis from Goodreads.com)

The Angel of Death clues the reader into of the supernatural world that Sloan is now neck-deep in.  If also made the book feel like it is building up to the bigger and bader things to happen.

As Warren is back in the Marines, we get more Solan and Nathan time. I like the dynamic, I am not going to lie, but I am on Team McNamara. He remembers things and is always there for Solan. I understand the chemistry between her and Warren and their magical connection pulls her closer to Warren. It’s just not who I would pick. I know it’s stupid but Sloan love triangle and her final pick mean I am less in a rush to pick up the next book.

Regarding the plot of The Angel of Death, there are several different strands.

What I love;

  • Meeting McNamara Family
  • Finding out more about Warrens family
  • The Fight scenes
  • Increase in abilities
  • The accidents / Nightmare

What I didn’t enjoy as much;

  • The FBI Case
  • The drama at the Jail
  • The prolonged Love triangle and the drama around it.
  • Sloan whinny behaviour
  • Adrianne relationship with a major play from the Angel side.

All in all, it’s is a good interesting, action-packed urban fantasy book. One that I will hopefully go back to,  but at the moment I need a break from Sloan.

My Rating for The Angel of Death is 3.8 out of 5.
