Book Review: Emerald Blaze (Hidden Legacy #5) by Ilona Andrews

Hi Cara,

Today review takes me back to Ilona Andrews Hidden Legacy world. Emerald Blaze is book 5 in the series. I listened to this book via Audible.

As Prime magic users, Catalina Baylor and her sisters have extraordinary powers – powers their ruthless grandmother would love to control.

Catalina can earn her family some protection working as deputy to the Warden of Texas, overseeing breaches of magic law in the state, but that has risks as well. When House Baylor is under attack and monsters haunt her every step, Catalina is forced to rely on handsome, dangerous Alessandro Sagredo, the Prime who crushed her heart.

The nightmare that Alessandro has fought since childhood has come roaring back to life, but now Catalina is under threat. Not even his lifelong quest for revenge will stop him from keeping her safe, even if every battle could be his last. Because Catalina won’t rest until she stops the use of the illicit, power-granting serum that’s tearing their world apart.

(Synopsis from Goodreads.com)

Emerald Blaze is a Blazing good book.

The narrator of the Hidden Legacy is Emily Rankin, I really enjoyed Emily as a narrator. She puts on a great performance. I like the voices that she has given to Catalina and Alessandra. Especially when Alessandra changes his voice depending on what version of him he is showing.

I always thought I would stay team Rogan but by getting to see more of Alessandra and understand his background made it so understandable why Catalina fell for him.

Also I always like Catalina but my respect for her grew in Emerald Blaze. What she does to protect her family amazes me. How her brain works astounds me. She is a good person doing the best she can when a lot of people are after her and her family.

The case that Catalina is pulled into is interesting, it opens the magic world up more. As there is something in this book that the characters and myself haven’t seen before. The case also links into what Alessandra been up to. Ilona weaved them both together so it enhanced the story and the drama.

Another aspect I enjoyed is Emerald Blaze is the mixture of fighting hand to hand, and fighting with magic. The last fight is truly epic.

Emerald Blaze is a funny, flirty, urban fantasy with a mystery wrapped in the middle.

Its always a good sign that I enjoyed a book that when I finish it, I try to find out when the next one will be coming out. Which is what i did with this book. (Coming out sometime 2021)

My Rating for Emerald Blaze is 4.5 out of 5.
