Book Review: Born in Fire (Fire and Ice Trilogy #1) by K.F Breene

Hi Cara,

I’ve decided to get back into audiobooks and I’ve decided to go back to the magical world that K.F Breene created. This time I’ve gone for her earlier series. Born in Fire is the first book in the Fire and Ice Trilogy.

Supernatural Bounty Hunter isn’t the sort of thing you see on LinkedIn. But with a rare type of magic like mine, I don’t have many options. If people found out what I could do—what I am—I would kiss my freedom goodbye.

So dangerous or not, the job is mine. And it was going fine, until an old as sin vampire stole my mark, and with it, my pay day.

Knowing I’m poor and desperate, he has offered me a job. I’ll have to work by his side to help solve a top secret case.

Everyone knows not to trust vampires. Especially a hot elder vampire. But without any other jobs coming up, I’m stuck. As I uncover a web of lies and treachery, revealing an enemy I didn’t know existed, the truth of my identity is threatened. I might make it out alive, only to end up in a gilded cage

Born in Fire brings me another kickass female to love.

Reagon is a character who is full of snark, sassy comments and crazy plans. Some people might not like her attitude as she never turns it off but I liked it. She has grown up not being able to trust anyone with her parentage, and not let people see how powerful she truly is. You don’t find out who Reagon father is till later in the book, so I spent time trying to guess what Reagon is.

In Born in Fire Reagon gets pulled into an investigation with the vampires, this is where we are introduced to elder vampire Darius. The talking and powerful Vampire who gets under Reagon sink in a smutty/sexy way.  A lot of moments between the two are tinged with sexual tension.

The case in parts felt like it was a filler that was there to connect the characters. As for me, I was more interested in the people over finding out who was stealing from the Vampires.

I did enjoy the battle/ fighting especially when the old Mages (I want a Dinosaur Distraction spell and a sword from those Mage.) I liked the way she fights like she has nothing to lose and doesn’t like losing. This means she always gives it her all.

Nicole Poole narrates Born in Fire, I enjoyed her performance and the voices she gave all the character. I especially like her performance of Reagon drunk fighting.

My rating for Born in Fire is 4.2 out of 5.
