Book Review: The Damned (The Beautiful #2) by Renée Ahdieh

Hi Cara,

Today I am revisiting New Orleans with the second book in Renée Ahdieh The Beautiful Series.

Following the events of The Beautiful, Sébastien Saint Germain is now cursed and forever changed.

The treaty between the Fallen and the Brotherhood has been broken, and war between the immortals seems imminent. The price of loving Celine was costly. But Celine has also paid a high price for loving Bastien.

Still recovering from injuries sustained during a night she can’t quite remember, her dreams are troubled. And she doesn’t know she has inadvertently set into motion a chain of events that could lead to her demise and unveil a truth about herself she’s not quite ready to learn.

Forces hiding in the shadows have been patiently waiting for this moment for centuries. And just as Bastien and Celine begin to uncover the danger around them, they learn their love could tear them apart.

(Synopsis from Goodreads.com)

The Damned continued to bring the magic with Bastien and Celine, as they continued to find there place in the world they now find themselves in.

The Damned feels more like Bastien story tan Celine. Even though there is a big revelation for Celine. It’s his discussion and behaviour that move the story along. Where it seemed Celine that moved the story in The Beautiful.

When I first started reading The Damned it took me several chapters to get back into the story again. It wasn’t till Celine point of view came back that I became invested. For me the appeal of the story is the relationship between the two. There is an aspect of their relationship turned Romeo & Juliet like. Which I am not sure how I feel about this. As I like the expansion of the world and what it means for the Vampire and Werewolves. But the Romeo & Juliet elements is just very mundane. Renée is a great author so I think she will give it more dimension in the next book.

Overall I enjoyed the action, magic, danger, revelation, romance and secrets that filled each page.

My Rating for The Damned is 4 out of 5.
