Book Review: Shadows & Surrender (The Jezebel Files #3) by Deborah Wilde

Hi Cara,

The audiobook that has been keeping me company as I work was Shadows & Surrender, book 3 in Deborah Wilde The Jezebel Files.

The narrator of the audiobook is Hollie Jackson.

Ash wanted a career filled with challenging mysteries.
She should have specified she didn’t mean her family.

When a murder scene reveals a connection to Ash’s father who abandoned her when she was thirteen, she’s stunned. He may be the key to stopping Chariot from achieving immortality.

The catch? He could be hiding anywhere in the world.

To make matters worse, Levi, Ash’s romantic entanglement and brand-new boss, has his first official case for her: helping his ex-girlfriend, a.k.a. Ash’s childhood tormentor.

No one ever said adulting was easy.

As secrets multiply and alliances get deadlier, Ash’s investigation takes her back into Hedon and into her own past. Cracking this case could reunite her family… or cost her everyone she holds dear.

Actual ghosts have nothing on the ghosts of her past.

Shadows & Surrender has romance, mystery, magic, snark and smut.

Again there are two mysteries to solve, one regarding Levi Ex and the other about the Jezebel investigation.

The Jezebel investigation has really kicked up a gear, as they find out leads. I was surprised where the leads take Ash and how that information will impact the team. Also, there is a team member that I have a question mark about something hinky maybe going on.

The other case is also interesting and brings great action to the book, especially with what happens in Hedon

One of the main draw to the series is the relationship between Ash and Levi. This heats up and the emotional connection deepens. I was happy that the banter didn’t stop.

A new character is added to the great mix. This one is slightly different she has four legs and a tail. Ash finds herself with a pug called Mrs Hudson. And as a dog lover, I can say a book gets better when you add dogs.

If you enjoy romance urban fantasy with a good dose of a mystery than you should pick up Shadow and Surrender.

Only one more book to go and the series will come to an end and I can’t wait to listen to it.

My rating for Shadow & Surrender is 4.3 out of 5.
