Book Review: Siege and Storm (Shadow & Bone #2)

Hi Cara,

Today on my blog I am reviewing Siege and Storm. This is the 2nd book in Leigh Bardugo Shadow and Bones Trilogy.

Synopsis

Hunted across the True Sea, haunted by the lives she took on the Fold, Alina must try to make a life with Mal in an unfamiliar land. She finds starting new is not easy while keeping her identity as the Sun Summoner a secret. She can’t outrun her past or her destiny for long.

The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and a dangerous plan that will test the very boundaries of the natural world. With the help of a notorious privateer, Alina returns to the country she abandoned, determined to fight the forces gathering against Ravka. But as her power grows, Alina slips deeper into the Darkling’s game of forbidden magic, and farther away from Mal. Somehow, she will have to choose between her country, her power, and the love she always thought would guide her--or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm.

Opinion

Seige and Storm bring more drama to the series and Alina life.

The book is built in the same way as Shadow and Bone with action in the beginning and the end. And lots of world-building and story build up in the middle. The action at the beginning and end really what makes the book.

The addition of Nikolai brings humour and lightheartedness to a very serious situation.  I wished there was more of him in the book.

I still like Alina, and what she is willing to do and how she deals with everyone. Mal on the other hand started to disappoint me, as he doesn't handle not having Alina to himself and at his beck and call.

Overall I enjoyed Siege and Storm and I am looking forward to Ruin and Rising.

My Rating for Siege and Storm is 4.8 out of 5.
