Hi eaxlgestealla,

I am doing a book binge on the Vic James  Dark Gifts series this week, so I after reading Gilded Cage I couldn’t wait to read Tarnished City.

The Harley family are split up, Luke has been Condemned to a castle in Scotland to be punished by an Equal, Abi is a furtive on the run and trying to find a way to find her brother. As Lord Jenner and Heir Bouda tighten their grip on the country and punish any commoner that attempt to rise above their station.

Abi and Luke will have to question or they do and do not trust as they and other like them try to rebuild a nation. Luke will also have to find out why Silyen Jenner is so interested in him and the history of Skill.

The fright for freedom will always come at a cost, but who will pay the ultimate price.

Tarnished City is darker and gritter than Gilded Cage, it also took me by surprise in several places, a couple of the people surprised me with their choices. One character in particular I am very very disappointed in, and another I was pleasntly surpised by.

Tarnished City makes you think about humanity, and what people are willing to do for any semblance of powe,  also how their justify the cruelty.

I still drawn to Silyen, I want to know what he is up to, his is a bit of an enigma. The Equals and the commoner are reacting to what is happen, where I feel like Silyen is seeing the bigger picture and that why he has set certain things in motion. What is happening is life and death for everyone but Silyen its just a game.

I still hate Lord Jenner and Bouda, I feel like I should go into more detail but I just dont like them.

This book will make you question which character you can trust and which ones you can’t. Mixed in with a compellng story, diverse character this book consumbed me from the 1st page.

I give this book 4.8 out of 5.
