Book Review: The Soul Summoner (The Soul Summoner #1) by Elicia Hyder

Hi Cara,

I think I have found the book series I am going to binge listen to. That series is The Soul Summoner by Elicia Hyder. The first book in the series is incidentally called The Soul Summoner.

Synopsis

Blessed–or cursed–with a connection to the souls of others, Sloan Jordan can see the best in people… and the worst.

For twenty-seven years, she’s kept her ability a secret, but eleven young women have been murdered in the mountains of North Carolina, and Sloan may be the only hope of finding their killer.

She has just agreed to help Detective Nathan McNamara with the case when a stranger—who is as alluring as he is terrifying—shows up at her doorstep with a dark past and another puzzling mystery: she can’t see his soul at all.

Now Sloan is on the hunt for a deadly psychopath with two irresistible men. One of them would die for her, and the other would kill to keep her safe.

Opnion

The Soul Summoner mixes two of my favourite genre crime and urban fantasy to create an interesting and compelling story to listen too.

The leading lady in The Soul Summoner is Sloan Jordan. Solan is different she can tell if your good or bad, and even dead or alive from a photo. Even though she’s different she still has normal problems, I liked that about her.  Also liked that she is a loyal friend, a good daughter and is willing to help others even if it places her in a difficult situation. She also has two very different and attractive man after her affection. I am not sure If I would pick the one she does, but that might be because I have a type.

Another thing that I liked is Sloan friendship with Adrianne, that Adrianne accepts Solan for all her weirdness.

The main plot thread is a serial killer case where 10 young women have gone missing over thirteen years. The way that Solan, Nathan and Warren find clues, evidence and the bad guy is really interesting. It brings a different spin on ‘magical’ powers helping with a criminal investigation

As I listened to The Soul Summoner, and I really enjoyed Brittany Pressley performance. The voice she gives to all the characters is distinctive and easy to listen too.

My Rating for the Soul Summoner is 4.7 out of 5.
