Book Review: Don’t Hex and Drive (Stay a Spell #2)

Hi Cara,

The review on my blog today is Don’t Hex and Drive by Juliette Cross. This is the second book in the Stay a Spell series. I haven’t read the first book in the series Wolf Gone Wild . But this hasn’t impacted me as the leading character are different, but the female leads are from the same family.

Notoriously bad at peopling, Isadora Savoie spends most of her time in the greenhouse or at the local animal shelter, using her Conduit powers of growth and healing.

Content to remain in the background of the Savoie sister shenanigans, she’s reluctantly roped into the mystery of missing neighborhood girls. Now, she’s partnered with a flashy, flirty vampire to find them before it’s too late.

Devraj Kumar has seen and done it all. Three hundred years roaming the earth as a Stygorn—a legendary vampire warrior who operates in the shadows—has its perks. But ennui has set in. That is, until he has a run-in—literally—with an intriguing witch while on a new assignment in New Orleans. Fascinated by her resistance to his charms, Devraj can’t help but push her buttons in an effort to get to know the shy witch. Fortunately for him, she’s been recruited by the Lord of Vampires to assist Devraj on the case.

Between a Bollywood marathon, supernatural dating app, secret package, and sexy driving instruction, Isadora is in over her head. And Devraj? After just one taste, he’s playing for keeps.

Don’t Hex and Drive is a fun and flirty read with a mystery that brings two characters together.

The leading lady in Don’t Hex and Drive is Isadora Savoie. She is a character that I found myself having a lot in common with, (well expect the witch thing.) She likes dogs, enjoys spending time on her own, doesn’t need a man to make her happy and puts her family first. It was lovely to read as she becomes closer to Devraj Kumar, as they break down each other walls and expectations.

One of my favourite elements of Don’t Hex and Drive is the magic / supernatural abilities. Isadora is a conduit, she can enhance the growth of plants and heal people and animals. The other witches all have different main abilities. I like that they are different types and not the normal, earth, water, Air and Fire. Also, the different levels of Vampires and their abilities was fun to read. Especial when Devraj Kumar was on the hunt.

This book is more about the romance between Isadora and Devraj. The missing girls are only a small element of Don’t Hex and Drive, the case was interesting, I wish we got more information about the bad guys at the end.

I read Don’t Hex and Drive in one night, I loved that it was a quick and easy to read. It great if you want a book to read in a night or want to read in small amounts over a week if you don’t have a lot of time.

Finally, Don’t Hex and Drive has;

  • Smut
  • Romance
  • Humour
  • Mystery
  • Magic
  • Werewolves
  • Vampire
  • Witches
  • Grim Reapers

My Rating for Don’t Hex and Drive is 4 out of 5.
