Book Review: Blades of Secrets (Bladesmith #1) by Tricia Levenseller

Hi Cara,

Today I am reviewing Blades of Secret by Tricia Levenseller. Blades of secret is a great start to a New series, showing how good Levenseler is as a storyteller and world building.

Synopsis

Eighteen-year-old Ziva prefers metal to people. She spends her days tucked away in her forge, safe from society and the anxiety it causes her, using her magical gift to craft unique weapons imbued with power.

Then Ziva receives a commission from a powerful warlord, and the result is a sword capable of stealing its victims' secrets. A sword that can cut far deeper than the length of its blade. A sword with the strength to topple kingdoms. When Ziva learns of the warlord’s intentions to use the weapon to enslave all the world under her rule, she takes her sister and flees.

Joined by a distractingly handsome mercenary and a young scholar with extensive knowledge of the world's known magics, Ziva and her sister set out on a quest to keep the sword safe until they can find a worthy wielder or a way to destroy it entirely.

A teenage blacksmith with social anxiety accepts a commission from the wrong person and is forced to go on the run to protect the world from the most powerful magical sword she's ever made.

Opinion

Blade of Secret follows Ziva and Terra as they try and run and hide a powerful warlord, who wants to use Ziva to create weapons to take over the country. I love the adventure aspect while they are on the run. As you get to see different areas, people, Mengion. I especially enjoyed the romance and flirting.

There are 4 main characters.

Ziva is the leading lady, she is someone I connected to straight away, with her social anxiety and lack of attraction to all people except I person. Her unner voice is one I am very familiar with. I like that she is trying to do the right thing.

Terma is Ziva younger sister, she is very different. She is feisty a

Kellyn is a mercenary and interesting character. As he protrays himself as a standard mercenary. But there is something hidden underneath. I like the time he and ziva spend together.

Petrik is an mystery inside of an Enigma. A quiet smart bookish man with secrets. I like the small moment when you see his personality.

The story is told in the first person as Ziva narrates the story. I always enjoy reading Tricia Levenseller. I find it easy to read with a good medium to fast paced.

Blades of secrets is a fun adventure, young adult fantasy with great banter, sweet romance and a growing friendship. I am looking forward to reading book 2.

THEMES: Adventure, Magic, Romance, Secrets, Fantasy.

My Rating for Blades of Secrets is 4 out of 5.
