Book Box Club September 2017 Outlaw Unboxing

I was very exited to receive my first Book Box Club box, I signed up for the box when I was at YALC and I got meet the lovely Libby and Kate.

I love bookish socks, so when I pulled out the Sante Sock that the Book Box club had desgined I couldn’t wait to wear them. The socks have been desgined with the heroine of this month book in mind

As a Harry Potter lover, I love the Marauders Postcards created by The Imaginative Illustrator . Now I can’t decide to keep them to myself, or start sending them to my friends with book recomendations on them.

I am obssessed with lip balm, so I was so happy when I pulled out the Inej Lipbalm by Oriandle  its caramel and cinnamon flavoured.

I love a good bookmark, and Marked by Hephastus has created this pretty Robin Hood magnetic bookmark, so that I can carry an Outlaw where ever I have a book.

The book is this months box, is A Jigsaw of Fire and Stars by Yaba Badoe, the book follows an orphaned girl Sante who is shipwreck and joins a travelling circus, but the ghosts from her past refuse to leave her in peace.

As it was the Book Box club 1st anniversary, their was two bonus items in the box. A yummy Birthday Biscuit made by Nila Holden and a extra book from their publisher friends. The book I got was My Side of the Diamond by Sally Gardner, the book is about Jazmin a girl that is being shunned ever since her best friends Becky disappeared. Becky disappearces is strange as she jumped of a tall building, but never reached the ground. She just vanished into think air. now Jazmin has to find out if she has something to do with becky disppearence or the strange and beguiling Icarus, the boy Becky was besotted with.

I can’t wait to join in, in my first members online book group. I loved having a scoll in my box, more things need to be in scoll form.

Thanks for reading.

Undercover Princess (The Rosewood Chronicles #1) by Connie Glynn

Undercover Princess was another book that I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy of. I was looking forward to reading the book, as a little girl (and maybe not so little) it was always a fairytale dream to be a princess.

The book follows Charlotte ‘Lottie’ Pumpkin as she takes her place at the infamous Rosewood Hall a prestige boarding school. Lottie is surprised when she finds out that her roommate is the Crown Princess of Maradova Ellie Wolf. So that Ellie can lead a normal life she has lied about who she is, due to some lies and coincidences people believe that Lottie is the princess. To help Ellie Lottie keeps pretending to be the princess and is trust into a world of royalty, a world which is filled with secrets, intrigue, betrayal and danger. Lottie finds out that the reality of being a princess isn’t a fairytale.

I was a little worried in part when reading the book, due to embarrassing moments that Lottie finds herself in. That was more to do with flash back to my embarrassing teenage moments. As the book progressed I found myself more and more engrossed into the story, I loved the juxtaposition between Ellie and Lotties characters, the rebel princess that does not fit the stereotype of princess and the ‘common’ girl who behaviour is more princess like. I can’t wait to see what trouble Ellie will get Lotties into in her next year at Rosewood Hall. I hope we get to find out more about Jamie as he a very intriguing character, and I would like to see more of his lighter side.

I give this book 4.4 out of 5

Invictus by Ryan Graudin

Invictus by Ryan Graudin was one of the books I was lucky enough to pick up a copy at YALC. The book came out on the 21st September in the UK 26th September in USA.

This book really took my interest as I love sci-fi and history this book has both in spades..

The book follows Farway McCarthy, a boy born outside of time. His mum is a time traveler that gave birth the Farway as she traveled back from Rome time to her present. When Farway grows up that all he wants to be is a time traveler but when he fails he fails his final exam, his dreams are dashed until he is given a second chance. This second chance is not legal to be a captain of his own time travel ship he will go back in time, and steal things from history disaster. When Farway tries to steal a book from the titanic he meet a girl, who end up changing how Farway and his crew see time, and finally answer some of Farway questions about his Heritage.

I love the idea that in the future we have the ability to go back in time, and record historical events. That the entertainment of the future is watching the past. I think I would want to be a historian and get to research the time period and sort out the clothing. Being the person that goes out and records history sound fun but I would want to interact with people instead of just watching them.

One of my favourite characters is Farway cousin Imogen, a free spirit historian with ever-changing hair colour, confident in everything other than her love life.

The Story is interesting, gripping and takes turns you would never of guessed. The characters are intriguing and charming that you would also like them as your friends.

I give this book 5 out of 5

Nyxia (The Nyxia Triad #1) by Scott Reintgen

I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy of Scott Reingen debut novel Nyxia, In my Illumicrate box. This book was on my watch list so I was very exited to read it.

The book follows Emmett Atwater as Emmett is leaving Detroit, the Babel Corporation has recruited him and will pay him handsomely to go to another Planet called Eden. Emmett can’t turn down that much money, as it will give him the money to look after his mum and dad for forever.  Babel motives are unknown, but Emmett doesn’t have time to focus on that as Babel will only take 8 out of 10 to Eden, he has to compete against the other recruits to earn his place. Babel are trying to test are turning Emmett into someone he doesn’t want to be, Emmett has some hard decisions to make. Either win at any cost or find a way to fight with out compromise what it means to be human.

The book is gripping from the start, the story is interesting and at great twist on the space genre.  In the book the recruits earn points, and seeing the score boards really up the suspense more so at the end. One of the things I really enjoyed with this book is that I never guessed any part of it, I was always surprised with the twist. I tried to go to sleep while thinking what could Babel but up too, that how much I got into the book.

This book is for anyone that has enjoyed books like, The loneliest Girl in the Universe, Flashfall, Hunger Games etc. If you enjoy Young adult Sci-Fi and this book isn’t already on your TBR list you need to add it.

I can’t wait to read the next book.

I give this book 5 out of 5.

Enigma (FBI Thriller #21) by Catherine Coulter

Enigma is the newest book in Catherine Coulter FBI thriller series, the book was published on the 12th September 2017.

Catherine Coulter intertwined two stories in one book, the first story follows a man how breaks into a pregnant women home. Savich saves the women, but when the women new-born baby is kidnapped the delve into a world of medical testing.

The second story follows new member of CAD team Cam and Jack from the New York office as they hunt down escape fugitive who escape prison transfer after robbing a bank. What is so important that he took from a safe deposit box that a person would risk breaking him free.

I always enjoy Catherine Coulter stories, the story is interesting fast paced and keeps you wanting more. This FBI Thriller series balances crime and romance, in this book the focus is more on crime than romance. Although I can see this book being a springboard for more romance.

The book makes you think about what you are willing to do to save a family member. There is one element of the story that is left unanswered which I hope in another book explains / resolved.

Sherlock and Savich are one of my favourite crime solving couples, I love how they work together at work and at home. The team that Savich has created is a interesting team with each person bring another dimension, there isn’t one person on the team that you can’t help put like.

I give this book 4.8 out of 5.

Tower of Dawn (Throne of Glass #6) by Sarah. J. Maas

Tower of Dawn is the highly anticipated book in Sarah. J. Maas Throne of Glass series.

This book is different from the normal Throne of Glass books as they are not revolving around Aelin.  The book focus on Chaol and Nesrya as they go to Antica to hopeful heal Chaol of his injuries caused by the last King of Adarlan. The journey isn’t only to get Chaol to the legendary healers of the Torre but to get the help off the southern continent empires in the war against the Valg.  While in Antica Chaol and Nesrya experinces things that will change them forever and could alter the course of the war.

As a character my feeling around Chaol has changed depending on the book, but I felt like this book I got to understand Chaol more, understanding why he is the way he is. In the end I really liked him as a character, you can see that he has grown as a man.

This book helps fills in the more of the history of the world of humans, fae and Valg, some of the revelations I would have never of guessed in my wildness dreams.  That help balances some things in the story that I did see coming.

Yrene Towers is one of my favorite characters so far in the series, she is tough and kindhearted. I loved that she would not back down from Chaol and would give her a piece of her mind even if it didn’t really fit with the Healer image. Yrene was a character that was introduced in the short story Assassin and the Healer and it was nice to see what happened to her.

This book is a great addition to an amazing series, I can not wait to see what happens next.

This book is full of action, romance, suspence and a thriller or two.

I give this book 5 out of 5
