Book Review: Once & Future by Amy Rose Capetta and Cori McCarthy

Hello My Bookish Knights,

Today review is about Once & Future by Amy Rose Capetta and Cori McCarthy. Once & Future a retelling of King Arthur and his round table, set in space with LGBTQ characters.

Ari crash-landed on Old Earth and stubble across a magic sword in a stone.

When she pulls the stone out of it resting place. She is revealed to be the newest and female reincarnation of King Arthur.  By pulling the stone out of the stone she awoken Merlin who job is to train Arthur so he can break the curse. Go on the quest to Defeat the cruel, oppressive government and bring peace and equality to all humankind. Also hopefully stop Merlin from continuing aging backwards.

All the while Ari is having to deal with the fact that she fugitive refugee in the territory controlled by the tyrannical Mercer corporation and on the run from them.

So it simple really, don’t get caught, help Merlin, save her mums and the universe from Mercer corporation. No pressure.

Once and Future is action and drama packed read. It has romance, magic, evil corporations, a female King and a Benjamin Button Merlin.

One of my favourite aspects of Once & Future is that people are non longer feel the need label people by gender and sexuality. As Merlin has been a sleep he has missed the evolution of it. Which cause some funny moments as he gets use this is.

Once & Future is an easy read, the story flows at a good pace that meant I finished the book in 1 sitting.

Cori and Amy Rose have create a great bunch of character. They have taken certain traits from the original King Arthur character but made them more interesting.

I am looking forward to seeing what happened next for Ari, Merlin and the Knights of the round table.

My rating for Once & Future is 4.5 out of 5.
