Hi YĆ«in,
Quirk Book got in contact with myself, to see if I was interested in reading the first English novel set in the massively popular An Attack on Titan world. Garrison Girl by Rachel Aaron introduces us to a new set of characters.
Rosalie Dumarque is the cousin of the King, and is destined to marry a nobel man her father had chosen for her. Before she marries Rosalie wants to see past the wall the protects her, and to put her training in the Military academy to use. She bargains her way to the frontline, but when she gets their its is nothing she would every expected. As she comes to terms with the reality of an endless war with creatures, the corruption, and finding people to trust as she battles Titans.
This was my first introduction into the An Attack on Titan world, and I really enjoyed it, I was intrigued by the world that has been created, that the only thing keeping people are walls that stop the Titan getting to the general population and eating them. It’s also interesting the way the wall are set up, that there are more walls between the rich and the Titans.
Rosalie has a massive growth as a character though out the book, she starts of as a naive lady and the end of the book she is a solider. Rosalie isn’t the only character to have emotional growth, but she does have the biggest.
Garrison Girl has some great action sequences, some real heart pounding moments. The fights on the wall between the Titan and squad 13 and the vertical moments they pull out.
Garrison Girl is only 240 pages long, it’s a perfect book if you have a couple of hours free.
I give this book 4 out of 5.
