Book Review: Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman

Hi Vinur minn,

Like most people my introduction to Norse Mythology was though the Marvel Universe. When I think of Thor and Loki I think of Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston. I have alway loved different mythology so I was looking forward to hearing more of those tales.

Neil Gaiman has retold Norse myths into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds. The stories we find out about the God, dwarves, and giants; until Ragnarok ends the world as they know it. Gaiman  introduces us to a stays true to Odin, the highest of the high, wise, daring, and cunning.  Thor, Odin’s son, incredibly strong yet not the smartest of gods. Loki, the son of the frost giants, a trickster and manipulator.

Norse Mythology was like visiting a world you knew about thought new eyes.

I had the audio copy of Norse Mythology read by Neil Gaiman, having the author read the book made me not want to stop listening. Each character had there own unique voice. His voice for Loki reminded me of Alan Rickman, so when I used my imagination it was a mixture of Hiddleston and Rickman.

Some of the tales I was aware of but some I wasn’t. Even the stories that I was aware of, Gaiman version made it seem like a new tale.

One of my favourite things from all the stories is Thor thought processes. If something happen it quicker and easier to think Loki had something to do with it. If Loki didn’t do it, than he will know how did.  I feel like when things go wrong I am going to blame it on Loki.

Loki and Thor are referred to as Blood Brothers, that is the one story  I would of liked to of heard about.

My rating for Norse Mythology is 4 out of 5.
