Hi Cara,
Another fix of Atticus and Oberon shenanigans was severed by listening to the 7th book in the Iron Druid Chronicles, Shattered.
For nearly two thousand years, only one Druid has walked the Earth—Atticus O’Sullivan, the Iron Druid, whose sharp wit and sharp sword have kept him alive as he’s been pursued by a pantheon of hostile deities.
Now he’s got company. Atticus’s apprentice Granuaile is, at last, a full Druid herself. What’s more, Atticus has defrosted an archdruid long ago frozen in time, a father figure (of sorts) who now goes by the modern equivalent of his old Irish name: Owen Kennedy. And Owen has some catching up to do.
Atticus takes pleasure in the role reversal, as the student is now the teacher. Between busting Atticus’s chops and trying to fathom a cell phone, Owen must also learn English.
For Atticus, the jury’s still out on whether the wily old coot will be an asset in the epic battle with Norse god Loki—or merely a pain in the arse. But Atticus isn’t the only one with daddy issues.
Granuaile faces a great challenge: to exorcise a sorcerer’s spirit that is possessing her father in India. Even with the help of the witch Laksha, Granuaile may be facing a crushing defeat.
As the trio of Druids deals with pestilence-spreading demons, bacon-loving yeti, fierce flying foxes, and frenzied Fae, they’re hoping that this time, three’s a charm.

Shattered is a book of ups and downs for Atticus and Granuailes. We finally find out who has been plotting against them in Tir Na Nog. The revel and outcome was a great piece of storytelling.
In Shattered we get to find out more about Arch-Druid Owen Kennedy. I find the out of time man entertaining. Especially with his grumpy disposition and his Irish accent.
Granuaile gets her own storyline in Shattered, that brings her back to old friends and family. I liked seeing Granuaile deal with a problem without Atticus. Also her budding friendship with her own Irishwolf hound Orla. I liked listening to Orla progression with the English language.
Due to having Granuaile and Own point of view in Shattered, we do get less time with Atticus and Oberon. I did miss them but I did like seeing Owen and Granuaile perspective. I hope we find out more stories from Owen about Atticus.
The last couple of revelation in Shattered make me exciting to see what happens next and if Atticus faked death will hold up under another investigation.
Shattered didn’t fail with its great lines, below are some of my favourites;
“It’s not polite to ask if a man has a big salami in his pants, okay?’
“I am the bringer of beef and the singer of sweet suppertime! Mine is the chicken and the Gravey forever, nom, nom!”
“An ignoranus,” Manannan explains is someone who’s both stupid and an arsehole.”
“The garden of sarcasm is watered with impatience, and mine choose that moment to bloom.”
“I bet it’s a universal truth; you eat your pie or go home.”
“So my free advice is to always find something to love and to make you laugh. Something that we keep you in here and now. hounds are good at it, and they work for me. They may or may not work for you.”
My rating for Shattered is 4.8 out of 5.
