Hi Cara,
I am continuing on with my Iron Druid Chronicles binge and now I’ve finished book 8 Staked.
When a druid has lived for two thousand years like Atticus, he’s bound to run afoul of a few vampires.
Make that legions of them. Even his former friend and legal counsel turned out to be a bloodsucking backstabber. Now the toothy troublemakers—led by power-mad pain-in-the-neck Theophilus—have become a huge problem requiring a solution. It’s time to make a stand.
As always, Atticus wouldn’t mind a little backup. But his allies have problems of their own. Ornery archdruid Owen Kennedy is having a wee bit of troll trouble: Turns out when you stiff a troll, it’s not water under the bridge. Meanwhile, Granuaile is desperate to free herself of the Norse god Loki’s mark and elude his powers of divination—a quest that will bring her face-to-face with several Slavic nightmares.
As Atticus globe-trots to stop his nemesis Theophilus, the journey leads to Rome. What better place to end an immortal than the Eternal City? But poetic justice won’t come without a price: In order to defeat Theophilus, Atticus may have to lose an old friend.

Staked named delivered in what I expected. A book that brings the Vampire war to ahead.
The book is split between Atticus, Granvaile and Owen. All three doing there own things put being impacted bu the Vampire and Loki drama.
I do feel that Atticus gets blamed for a lot when he trying his best. It makes me feel sorry for him and want to give a hug.
Granuaile storyline is interesting and I like how it shows how kickass she is. That she doesn’t need Atticus to save herself. Also, I liked how Orla and Granualie bond has grown, and Orla language skills have improved.
The last part with Oberon and Orla warmed my hearts and made me wish I could listen in to more of there conversations.
Staked has some great fight/action scenes. They are definitely up there especially the fight in Rom and another with a Troll.
As always Staked has some great quotes and my favourite are below;
“You can’t put your fist through a man’s wood and expect him to forgive and forget.”
“Defend the honour of your arse-munching couch.”
“My God, Atticus, you look like you had an orgy with egg yolks and orange juice.” We might need a loofah” I admitted, “Dare I ask what happened?” “An Olympian exploded on us and it was yucky.”
As I am listening to the book it means I need to stop swearing with an Irish account. It seems Owen is a bad influence on me.
My Rating for Staked is 4.8 out of 5.
