Hi Cara,
My Iron Druid Chronicles Audiobook binge has come to an end. Scourged is the ninth and final book.
Unchained from fate, the Norse gods Loki and Hel are ready to unleash Ragnarok, a.k.a. the Apocalypse, upon the earth.
They’ve made allies on the darker side of many pantheons, and there’s a globe-spanning battle brewing that ancient Druid Atticus O’Sullivan will be hard-pressed to survive, much less win. Granuaile MacTiernan must join immortals Sun Wukong and Erlang Shen in a fight against the Yama Kings in Taiwan, but she discovers that the stakes are much higher than she thought.
Meanwhile, Archdruid Owen Kennedy must put out both literal and metaphorical fires from Bavaria to Peru to keep the world safe for his apprentices and the future of Druidry.
And Atticus recruits the aid of a tyromancer, an Indian witch, and a trickster god in hopes that they’ll give him just enough leverage to both save Gaia and see another sunrise. There is a hound named Oberon who deserves a snack, after all.

Scourged brings Atticus story to an end, all the trouble that started from Hounded comes to an explosive end.
A lot of things happened in Scourged to Atticus, Granuaile and Owen. As Ragnarok is now upon them, and Gaia is in need. Each character has there own tasks which kept the plot fast and interesting. The feel of the story was different it’s more emotional and sad in places.
I loved the battles scenes, as they had the mix of fighting with magic and Gods. Although the Gods came across a bit chickenish in places.
The humour again comes from the animals in Scourged. We are introduced to a new animal character Slowmo the sloth. I love sloths so I feel in love with Slowmo straight away. As I was listening to the book she sounded stoned. So that made me laugh when I think about a stoned sloth.
My favourite quotes from Scourged are;
“I will tell you, even though you are young and unprepared: Men. Are. Shit.”
“An Owl hoots in the night, spooky as five hells and a jar of creamy peanut butter – that shite’s unnatural.”
“I almost asked her, “Short or tall?’ But I catch myself just in time. She’s an Irish Goddess If I give her a tiny glass of beer she will hurt me.”
Although this is not the ending I wished for Atticus, as I had grown attached to him. I felt that Atticus isn’t perfect, he has a lot of blame attached to him, but it seems it doesn’t matter what he does to make amends. But I understand why the book ended in the way it did.
The series has been great for showing kickass woman, funny animals, different religion pantheon and adventures not constricted to one world.
I am sorry to see the end of this series but when I see sausages I will always remember Oberon.
My Rating for Scourged is 4 out of 5.
