Hi Cara,
Today’s book takes me back to France. The book in question is The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi. This is the first book in The Gilded Wolves series.
No one believes in them. But soon no one will forget them.
It’s 1889. The city is on the cusp of industry and power, and the Exposition Universelle has breathed new life into the streets and dredged up ancient secrets. Here, no one keeps tabs on dark truths better than treasure-hunter and wealthy hotelier Séverin Montagnet-Alarie. When the elite, ever-powerful Order of Babel coerces him to help them on a mission, Séverin is offered a treasure that he never imagined: his true inheritance.
To hunt down the ancient artefact the Order seeks, Séverin calls upon a band of unlikely experts: An engineer with a debt to pay. A historian banished from his home. A dancer with a sinister past. And a brother in arms if not blood.
Together, they will join Séverin as he explores the dark, glittering heart of Paris. What they find might change the course of history–but only if they can stay alive.

The Gilded Wolves is a rich and magical world, where this alternative France is a place where dreams and nightmare are born.
One of my favourite aspects of The Gilded Wolves is the cast of character. I love that they are multinational with different skin colours, religion, sexual orientation and even a character that is on the spectrum.
Zofia is the character I believe is on the spectrum. It was amazing to see a character who is smart but has issues with the social side of life. Also liked the way in which Laila interacts with her, and does things to make things easier for her, or gives her something to help her cope. My favourite moment between the two is regarding the three dresses, all three helped Zofia in a different way so she could pick the one that best fits her mood than.
Overall I like all the characters and enjoy being able to read the story from there points of view. It also helped keep the story interesting and allowed me to connect to them more.
This is one of those books when you are halfway through you know something isn’t going to go well as there is too much left. This left me on tenterhooks trying to figure out how the plan will go wrong.
another aspect of The gilded Wolves I enjoyed was the magic element the forging ability and what can be done with it. I like that is a mixture of magic and science.
The ending of The Gilded Wolves perfectly sets it up for the second book with wrapping up what happened in The Gilded Wolves.
I am looking forward to The Silvered Serpent which comes out 22nd September 2020.
