Hi Cara,
Today review is The Masked City the 2nd book in The Invisible Library series by Genevieve Cogman. I decided to change the format up and listened to the audiobook.
Librarian-spy Irene is working undercover in an alternative London when her assistant Kai goes missing. She discovers he’s been kidnapped by the fae faction and the repercussions could be fatal. Not just for Kai, but for whole worlds.
Kai’s dragon heritage means he has powerful allies, but also powerful enemies in the form of the fae. With this act of aggression, the fae is determined to trigger a war between their people – and the forces of order and chaos themselves.
Irene’s mission to save Kai and avert Armageddon will take her to a dark, alternate Venice where it’s always Carnival. Here Irene will be forced to blackmail, fast talk, and fight. Or face death.

The Masked City is an adventure mystery prison break of a story.
In The Masked City, we find out more about the Fae and dragons. The book is forced on the fae, I love seeing the different archetype, the hierarchy and how powerful a storyline is to them.
It was weird listening to the book after just reading the others. I hadn’t pictured there voices being so prim and proper. But when you think out the world they live in and there upbringing it does make sense.
One of my favourite element of the Masked City is the way Irene thinks and talks her away out of a bad dangerous situation. Also how polite she is in these situations.
The final act of the book and the magic used was amazing. The visual picture was amazing and something would live to see.
Another element I enjoyed is the bond between Kai, Irene and Vale. They are all loner types and it great seeing their respect and friendship grows and what they are willing to do for each other.
My Rating for The Masked City is 4.5 out of 5.
