Book Review: The Curator (Washington Poe #3) by M.W Craven

Hi Cara,

Today I am reviewing the third book in M.W Craven, Washington Pow series, The Curator.

It’s Christmas and a serial killer is leaving displayed body parts all over Cumbria. A strange message is left at each scene: #BSC6. Called in to investigate, the National Crime Agency’s Washington Poe and Tilly Bradshaw are faced with a case that makes no sense.

Why were some victims anaesthetized, while others died in appalling agony? Why is their only suspect denying what they can irrefutably prove but admitting to things they weren’t even aware of? And why did the victims all take the same two weeks off work three years earlier?

And when a disgraced FBI agent gets in touch things take an even darker turn. Because she doesn’t think Poe is dealing with a serial killer at all; she thinks he’s dealing with someone far, far worse – a man who calls himself the Curator.

And nothing will ever be the same again…

The  Curator is another knockout by Craven.

The case that Poe and Tilly get involved in is gripping, interesting and multi-layered. The investigation goes in a different direction as Poe and Tilly find more evidence. It is also interesting that the case expends over countries, the internet and reality.

Poe and Tilly are some of my favourite detective’s duo. There are incredibly protective of each other, and an odd best friend couple, but it works. I loved the moment where Tilly shouts at Poe, regarding going to the baby shower. The quote made me laugh out loud.

“Washington Poe, you might have a penis but that doesn’t mean you get to use the social privileges of the patriarchal society to get out of doing things you don’t like.”

I also enjoyed all the moment Tilly tells Poe off regarding his eating habits.

Another element I enjoyed is D.I Flynn and the way she is dealing with her pregnancy and the loss of her filter.

As the book comes to a conclusion I had to double-check what I was reading as it took me by surprise. But I agree with Poe outcome.

The Curator is clever and complex and a great read for any crime mystery fans.

I can not wait to read the next book in the series Dead Ground, which is being published on 3rd June 2021.

My Rating for The Curator is 5 out of 5.
