Hi Cara,
Today on my blog I am reviewing The House of Always by Jenn Lyons. The House of Always is book 4 in A Chorus of Dragon series.
Below are links to my review of the first three books;
What if you were imprisoned for all eternity?
In the aftermath of the Ritual of Night, everything has changed.
The Eight Immortals have catastrophically failed to stop Kihrin's enemies, who are moving forward with their plans to free Vol Karoth, the King of Demons. Kihrin has his own ideas about how to fight back, but even if he's willing to sacrifice everything for victory, the cost may prove too high for his allies.
Now they face a choice: can they save the world while saving Kihrin, too? Or will they be forced to watch as he becomes the very evil they have all sworn to destroy.

The House of Always brings a new and interesting take on the storytelling arc. As the book story is told in the "present" and "memories" But how they link together and become a linear story is really interesting.
There is a lot of action in The House of Always but the main focus is on the characters. As no secrets stay hidden. Kihrin, Janel and Tereath have some growth in their character regarding their feeling for each other as a trio. TBH they aren't the only ones that have some character growth either.
One of my favourite aspects of The House of Always is the way it deals with relationships. From poly relationship, same-sex or hetero relationship and even friendships. That they aim for equal standing as wells as being comfortable in their own skin. There is some steamy moment as well, due to half the group being in relationships with each other.
Another aspect I enjoy is the banter between all the characters, from sarcasm to flirting and everything in between.
The House of Always set up the story to go in a different direction than I expected. I really want to know what is going to happen, what everyone plan is. Is everyone on the same page with the plan?
I partly read The House of Always and listened to the audiobook. The narrators of the book are Lauren Fortgang and Vikas Adam. Both do an amazing job of narrating multiple characters, different ages and point of view. I may have searched what other books that Vikas Adam has narrated as I could listen to his voice call day.
P.S I still love the footnotes.
My rating for The House of Always is 5 out of 5.
