Ink and Bone is the first book in the Great Library series by Rachel Caine. The premise that the Great Library of Alexandra survived and now hold the world knowledge and it the most powerful forces. All the original books of are held by the Library and it is against the law to own a original with punishment of death. The book follows Jess as he try to join the ranks of Library part because of his love of books and knowledge. The other part is to get hold of rare books that he can he can give to his smuggler family. As Jess deals with every test the Library throws at him he comes to realise that the Library isn’t as good as it seems.
I found the book difficult to get into at first as it was slow as it builds this new world. When I got half way in the book and then I couldn’t put the book down as this is when the action started, and we start to find out that the world isn’t as good as made to believe. The world that Rachel Caine has created is very interesting, there is no technology but alchemy and the world hasn’t evolved and still in the style of the Elizabethan area.
I don’t think i could live in a world that I couldn’t have my own copy of books, as my books have opened myself to new and wonderful world and people.
Thanks for reading
