Hi Sadiq,
ShadowBlack by Sebastien De Castell is the second book in the Spellslinger series. At the moment I’ve decided to do a Spellslinger binge session and I am not regretting that choice.
Kellen has been an outlaw for a couple of months.
Only sixteen and he is relying on his smarts and wits to stay alive in the land of the Seven Sands. Kellen only has Ferius Parfax a loner traveller and a Squirrel Cat called Reichis as companions. Although he is not alone his still misses his family and the girl he left behinds.
While traveling the Seven Sands, Kellen meets Seneria, a girl who can see but is stuck wearing a blindfold. When he find out Seneria has the Shadowblack, Kellen, Ferius and a reluctant Reichis resolve to help. The situation looks even more dangerous when their is a Shadowblack outbreak, when Kellen starts to investigate he can’t help finding links to his own people.
Kellen is on an epic adventure and I happy to grab hold and not to let go.
Shadowblack opens up the Spellslinger world, and you come to realise that Kellen has lived a very sheltered life. One of my favourite moments in the book is Ferius teaching him what to do in certain social situation.
Reichs again steals the one liner crown again, my book is full of post it note highlighting his quotes.
“Just so we’re clear Kellen”, the squirrel cat said as he closed his eyes,”you ever try petting me and I’ll bite your hand off.”
Also when I think of Reichs now I am thinking baths and butter biscuits to go with his badass attitude.
As a result of a surprised meeting on their journey, we finally find out more about the mysterious Ferius Parfax, which wetted my appetite on wanting to know more about her, and the way of the Argosi.
Shadowback is an amazing story, interesting character, and an easy read. Sebastien De Castell is incredible writer as he resolves this story but leaves you wanting more.
My rating for ShadowBlack is 5 out of 5.
The next stop in this Spellslinger series is Charmcaster.
