Hello Muggles,
Today review is Magic for Liars by Sarah Gailey.
Ivy Gamble has a normal life, she is a private investigator that going ok. She has her own (empty) apartment and a slight drinking problem.
She has a twin sister Tabitha who she is estranged from, as Tabitha is magical. Although Ivy never wanted to be magic, they grew up in two very different worlds.
But when Ivy is hired to investigate the gruesome murder of a faculty member at Tabitha’s private academy, the stalwart detective starts to lose herself in the case, the life she could have had, and the answer to the mystery that seems just out of her reach.
Magic for Liars is a Magical Murder mystery with family drama mixed in.
Sarah Gailey writing style is easy to read and engaging. Magic for Liars hooked me with the case and made me emotionally invested in Ivy.
As a twin, Ivy and Tabitha’s relationship intrigued me. I understand why Ivy has difficulty with Tabitha being the magically one out of the two. As a twin everyone aspects you to be close and very similar, people even question why you are not as good as your twin (which SUCKS) It made me like Ivy more because I think I would have reacted the same way.
The world of magic that Sarah has created is remarkable, I like the fact that life is very similar to a none magical world. The kids at the school have the same drama as any kid in any school has.
Let’s talk about the case, It interesting, Ivy maybe is looking for a killer but she finds some other secrets out as well. Also, the outcome surprised me, normally I am good at figuring out what happened. This time not so much.
My rating for Magic for Liars is 5 out of 5.
