Book Review: Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman

Hi Cara,

I decided that I need to read/ listen to Good Omens before I watched the Amazon Prime T.V Show. Once I finished the book I turned the show on.

The world will end on Saturday. Next Saturday.

Just before dinner, according to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, the world’s only completely accurate book of prophecies written in 1655. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing and everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except that a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture. And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.

(Synopsis from Goodreads as I couldn’t write it any better.)

Good Omens was as good as I thought. This take on the religious end of the word is enjoyable entertaining.

Crowley and Aziraphale are both great and the dynamic between both brings so much wit and humour to the story. I love that they are different but very similar.

The story is split over days and the different perspectives My favourite perspective are Crowley and Aziraphale. Although I also enjoyed the four horsepeople POV.

I love the fact the war is a woman. As in most interpretation of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse are well men. And we all know that sometimes there is nothing scary than an angry woman with a plan.

The way the story wraps religion elements into an entertaining and engaging story. That doesn’t take itself to serious.

The favourite parts of the book are

  • Angus Knutter saying they are late for her burning,
  • Team building
  • Anything that comes out of Shadwell’s mouth.
  • Crowly and his house plants
  • People not believing their eyes.
  • Queen Music
  • Footnotes.

I enjoyed listening to Good Omens, the performances really did bring the book to life.

My rating for Good Omens is 5 out of 5.
