Book Review: Demon Moon (Prof Croft #1) by Brad Magnarella

Hi Cara,

Again I am on the hunt for another book series to listen to while I work. This time I came across the Prof Croft Series by Brad Magnarella. The first book in the series is Demon Moon and is narrated by James Patrick Cronin.

Everson Croft here, professor of mythology and behind-the-scenes wizard.

Show me an amateur conjurer, and I’ll stop him before he gets himself killed.

That’s the idea, anyway. But New York City isn’t what it used to be, and I don’t mean the recent crash.

Amateur casters are calling up creatures they shouldn’t be able to. And there’s been a murder at the city’s most hallowed cathedral, a message in blood on the victim’s back the NYPD wants me to interpret, like yesterday.

Something tells me I’m in over my head. And that’s not just Chinatown’s newest mob boss, a scary-powerful vampire, or my possessed cat talking.

No matter how much magic I hurl, worse keeps chasing bad, and I’m amassing enemies like their aluminium cans.

Did I mention the end of the world might be nigh?

Damn. Maybe I’m the amateur here.

Demon Moon brings a slightly different spin to the magical world.

First thing I will say if Professor Croft was at my Uni/ College I would sign up for his class because;

  1. The Course sounds interesting
  2. He’s Hot.

The mixture of magic and mystery keeps the plot interesting. Certain parts of the plots I guessed others I didn’t. There were times when I want to shout at Everson Croft as he doesn’t male things easy for himself.

I enjoyed the fact that Everson doesn’t know everything and he isn’t the most powerful wizard. but he tries and he wants to be better, which would surprise people that know him from his day job.

Another aspect I enjoyed was that the two side characters that Everson deals with are strong and smart females. Although his attraction to them both does detract from it a bit.

The vampires in the Prof Croft world make me look differently at the regression. Maybe the old Vampire cause it to get more power. Who knows.

The ending makes me interested in what trouble Everson will get up to next.

James Patrick Corin Narration is great, it made it easy and enjoyable to listen too.

My rating for Demon Moon is 3.8 out of 5.
