Book Review: Shatter the Earth (Cassandra Palmer #10) by Karen Chance

Hi Cara,

I am back again to the wonderful world of Cassie Palmer. Shatter the Earth is book 10 that Karen Chance has brought to us, lucky readers.

Ironically for the time traveling, chief seer of the supernatural world, time has never been on Cassie Palmer’s side.

There has always seemed to be too much to learn, too much to master, and never enough hours in a day. But the tables have now turned, and the fluctuating timelines of earth and faerie are diverging, slowing time in faerie relative to earth, and giving humans an advantage for the first time in their war with the fey. It is one they desperately need, for a literal war of the worlds is about to take place.

To win, or even to survive, Cassie and her allies, the powerful vampire senator Mircea Basarab and the formidable war mage John Pritkin, will have to pull off their greatest feat yet. And find a way to become more than the sum of their parts.

Shatter the Earth is a rip-roaring, time hoping world jumping adventure.

The story picks up about a month after Brave the Tempest, everything has been quiet but that never lasts long for cassie. As the book starts straight away into trouble with a good dose of magic and action.

The lover knot spell discussed in Brave the Tempest plays a big part in Shatter the Earth. The way it was used and evolved gave some great moments and action scenes. There was an aspect that I did figure at before Cassie did. But I can’t blame her as I wasn’t in the middle of a war.

One of my favourite aspects of Shatter the Earth are the moments that are filled with humour, understanding, respect and loyalty. One, in particular, is Cassie moments with Rhea and her position in court. I like that Cassie is much more comfortable in her skin which means she gives advice and helps with a great understanding.

Shatter the Earth has some great quotes below are some of my favourites;

‘Get a grip, I told myself. Anf if you lose the butter chicken you will eat salad tonight, and for the rest of the damned week!”

“I frowned. Hoe do cats always find the one item that is hardest to clean cat hair off of? It’s honestly a talent.”

“I groaned and put a hand to my head, where it felt like I had the mother of all hangovers. And the grandmother and great-grandmother as well.”

My Rating for Shatter the Earth is 4.8 out of 5.
