Book Review: Nevernight (The Nevernight Chronicles #1) by Jay Kristoff

Hi Cara,

Today on my blog I am reviewing Nevernight by Jay Kristoff. This is a series I have wanted to read for a while now, I am happy that I finally picked it up.

Mia Corvere is only ten years old when she is given her first lesson in death.

Destined to destroy empires, the child raised in shadows made a promise on the day she lost everything: to avenge herself on those that shattered her world.
But the chance to strike against such powerful enemies will be fleeting, and Mia must become a weapon without equal. Before she seeks vengeance, she must seek training among the infamous assassins of the Red Church of Itreya.
Inside the Church’s halls, Mia must prove herself against the deadliest of opponents and survive the tutelage of murderers, liars and daemons at the heart of a murder cult.
The Church is no ordinary school. But Mia is no ordinary student.
The Red Church is no ordinary school, but Mia is no ordinary student.
The shadows love her.
And they drink her fear.

(Synopsis from Goodreads.com)

Nevernight is a book full of death, blood, shadows and sex.

As I started my journey into the world of Nevernight it took me a little while to find my footing. As Mia hunts for the Red Church is when I really became invested in the story. But when I became hooked when Mia started her lessons.

The set up with the assassin school, and how dangerous it was entertaining. Also how nonchalant the teachers were when students do ‘pass’ a test.

Friendship and Romance that Mia had in Nevernight surprised me, as you think she wouldn’t have the kindness or empathy, with everything that she has done and gone through. It makes her more of a well-rounded character. It was these aspects of her personality, her brain and her deadly skills that made me like Mia.

I can understand why everyone loves Mister Kindly the shadow cat, I love his dry wit and the support he gives Mia.

One of my favourite aspects of Never night is the fight scenes especially the last one. It was epic, with many different elements. I also liked that it went over a couple of different locations.

Overall Nevernight is a great read for anyone that likes foul mouth female assassins.

My Rating for Nevernight is 4.7 out of 5.
