Ash and Quill is the third book by Rachel Caine in the Great Library series;
The first book in Ink and Bone if you would like to read my review click HERE
The second book in the series is Paper and Fire if you would like to read my review click is HERE.
Jess and his friend has just managed to escape being caught in London, they have fled to Philadelphia only to find themselves imprisoned by burners. The burner would rather burn books and lose knowledge than submit to the constraint of the Great Library. Jess and his friends have difficult choices to make to survive, they have knowledge of a machine that would stop the Great Library dominion on the world’s Knowledge. Who should they share this with, who should they trust and who can be allies. The choices that they make will have consequences on the group in several different ways.
My favourite relationship in this series is between Wolfe and Santi, the love between the two of them is subtle put powerful. They are two half of a whole scholar and high guard, they balance each other out. I also like the fact that even though they are a same-sex couple this isn’t the focus their loyalty and love is the forces.
In this book we get to see more of the burners and Jess family that they have the same goals as the Great Library Greed and power. It harder for the group as they are fighting against more than just the Great Library.
I also enjoyed seeing the evolution of the character you can see this more in this book than the first two. You can see the burden of their task has taken on them, they are no longer the same people that they were in Ink and Bone
This book is my favourite in the series, the book has action, drama twists and turns that kept my gripped from page 1 to page 373.
I give this book 4.8 out of 5.
