Book Review: Guess Who by Chris McGeorge

Hi ngumhlobo,

After reading a lot of fantasy book recently I’ve decided to come on a bit of a crime fiction binge. The First book I have picked is Guess Who by Chris McGeorge.

Morgan Sheppard has been famous since he was eleven years old, when he solved the murder of his math teacher.

Twenty five years later Sheppard is a famous  T.V personality . His show Resident Detective  Sheppard uses his detective skills to help the general public with their problems. Like Who is the father? and is my partner cheating on me? Sheppard life is all about fame, drink and pills.

Until one day he wakes up in a hotel room he doesn’t recognised, handcuffed. He isn’t alone, five other people are there and are starting to wake up. When they tried to find a way to escape a man is found dead in the bath.

Sheppard is told he must solve the crime in the next three hours or everyone in the hotel will be blown up. One of the five strangers is the murder, to live he just has to find out which one.

Guess Who is Cluedo meet Saw meets Jeremy Kyle trying to be Sherlock.

The premise of Guess Who intrigued me from the start, the deadline it kept the pace up,  as Sheppard rushes round for clues, I wanted to match the pace with my reading speed.

I knew I wouldn’t be putting down the book when I read this;

“Because as Sheppard looked around, he didn’t see a hotel room. He saw a coffin.”

Sheppard ist a character that you will necessary like, but as the book continues you start to warm to him when he starts to admit his problems.  All the unintentional game player in Guess Who are interesting in their own right, you will go back and Forth between them all trying to figure out which one did it.

Additionally Guess Who has a  great twist half way thought the book, I didn’t see the twist coming. The only issue I have with it is that it made it easier to guess certain things in the second half of the book.

My Rating for Guess Who is 4 out of 5.

Chris McGeorge next book Now You See Me comes out Feb 2019, and it alway on my TBR Wishlist.
