Book Review: Finale (Caraval #3) by Stephanie Garber

Hi Cara,

The Caraval has come to an end, as Stephanie Garber brings the series to an end with Finale.

The other two books in the trilogy are;

  1. Caraval
  2. Legendary

Welcome, welcome to Caraval…all games must come to an end.

It’s been two months since the last Caraval concluded, two months since the Fates have been freed from an enchanted deck of cards, two months since Tella has seen Legend, and two months since Legend claimed the empire’s throne as his own. Now, Legend is preparing for his official coronation and Tella is determined to stop it. She believes her own mother, who still remains in an enchanted sleep, is the rightful heir to the throne.

Meanwhile, Scarlett has started a game of her own. She’s challenged Julian and her former fiancé, Count Nicolas d’Arcy, to a competition where the winner will receive her hand in marriage. Finally, Scarlett feels as if she is in complete control over her life and future. She is unaware that her mother’s past has put her in the greatest danger of all.

Caraval is over, but perhaps the greatest game of all has begun―with lives, empires, and hearts all at stake. There are no spectators this time: only those who will win…and those who will lose everything.

Finale did end with a magical bang.

I have previously read and loved Caraval and Legendary but I have to say that Stephanie Garber has left the best till last. Tella and Scarlet come into there own in Finale. They both become stronger and they finally find out what they want in life. As well as what more important.

Finale is split into Tella and Scarlet point of view, it’s enjoyable seeing the story from both sides. As both sister deal with things differently. It also keeps the pace of the story up, as there was either drama, action, revelations, magic and romance.

The story main focus is the fates, and the trouble they are causing. I loved the fates, they brought so many different elements to the story. All the fates are so unique and dangerous. They all have different powers, some more interesting than others. The ability to make someone answers a question truthfully was especially interesting.

My only small issue is I never emotionally connected with the characters, but I am happy with there ending.

From the first chapter, there were great lines. Below are some of my favourites;

“Tonight he was smiling like a wicked prince, escaped from the stars, ready to spirit her up into the heavens.”

“He was still the most beautiful liar she’d ever seen.”

“Just because I don’t like you doesn’t mean you’re not pretty.”

“Tella could hear the pieces of her heart as it shattered.”

My Rating for Finale is 4.5 out of 5.
