Hi Cara.
The Ash Princess Trilogy has come to an end. Ember Queen is the last book in Laura Sebastian series. The previous two books are;
Princess Theodosia was a prisoner in her own country for a decade. Renamed the Ash Princess, she endured relentless abuse and ridicule from the Kaiser and his court. But though she wore a crown of ashes, there is fire in Theo’s blood. As the rightful heir to the Astrean crown, it runs in her veins. And if she learned nothing else from her mother, she learned that a Queen never cowers.
Now free, with a misfit army of rebels to back her, Theo must liberate her enslaved people and face a terrifying new enemy: the new Kaiserin, imbued with a magic no one understands, the Kaiserin is determined to burn down anyone and everything in her way.
The Kaiserin’s strange power is growing stronger, and with Prinz Søren as her hostage, there is more at stake than ever. Theo must learn to embrace her own power if she has any hope of standing against the girl she once called her heart’s sister.

Ember Queen brings Theodosia journey to an explosive end.
There is a lot of action in Ember Queen as Thora and her moss matched army try to take back the control from the crazy false queen Cress. I enjoyed the mix of battles and planning, especially the connection between Cress and Thora.
The pacing did drop in a couple of places as moments where being built up. But overall It had a good steady flow.
In the previous two books Ash Princess and Lady Smoke, there were moments that brought me to tears. But as Thora is stronger and finally come into her own. I didn’t need to cry over her, but to be proud of the person she became.
Laura Sebastian has created a great cast of characters, I like the mix of strong females, with males that listen and respect them. Well, the male character in Thora group.
Ember Queen has some great quotes below are a couple of my favourites;
“I died the Queen of Peace, and peace died with me,” my mother told me. “But you are the Queen of Flame and Fury, and you will set their world on fire.”
“The girl staring back doesn’t look like me – her face is sharper, eyes harder, jaw stronger. I used to think I looked like my mother, but there is precious little of her left in me now, though it isn’t quite Ampelio’s face either. Instead, I think I merely look like myself.”
My Rating for Ember Queen is 4 out of 5.
